Chapter two, “Leesburg” continues the story of Sue’s childhood and takes us to the idyllic rolling hills of Leesburg, Kentucky, where Sue’s father became part-owner and manager of the village grocery store.
Read how Sue spent her growing-up days around this marvelous collage of sights and smells, sacking groceries, pumping gas, slicing bologna, and sitting around the potbellied stove at night playing cards with the menfolk. Travel back to days when on summer evenings, the visiting shifted to the front porch, where the menfolk on rocking chairs sipped cold sodas and continued their banter as they spit and chewed tobacco and told tales about their “old ladies,” the cows, and their crops “a-growin’.”
