I am discovering just how important praise is to my Christian walk. There are a boat-load of verses in scripture that tell us much about praise and why we should be expressing it all of the time.
Here are 4 quick reasons I found in scripture that encourage us to praise.
Praise:
- Adores God- “My soul will boast in the Lord” Psalm 34:2 As we extol and praise and exalt His Name, that tells Him that we adore who He is. This is glorifying God.
- Attracts God- “God inhabits the praise of His people”Psalm 22:3 . Praise is the number one expression that “bangs God’s shutters”. He loves to hear our praise and is drawn to it. I mean after all, aren’t you drawn to anyone who expresses to you how awesome you are?
- Attacks your enemy– The story is found in 2Chronicles 20:1-30. As the story goes, when Jehoshaphat sent out singers before his army, the Lord set ambushes against Israel’s enemy and the enemy was defeated.
- Affects you– “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it (faith) with thanksgiving” Colossians 2:6-7. Want to know how to abound in faith? This verse tells you. Abound in your faith with thanksgiving. Whoa!
As I give thanks, I actually glorify God, cause Him to draw near, defeat my enemy and grow my faith. Now that is a promise I can take to the bank!
What better time in November at our national holiday of Thanksgiving than to share with each other around the turkey just what you are thankful for.
